This week I was absent Monday and we had a snow day, but I was still able to get some good work done. I started off by taking out the pieces for the cover which I routed last week, which means I don't have to cut anything else for this project. I sanded all four pieces and since the grove (which is for plexiglass this time) isn't as deep, there wasn't too much to sand. Before I routed and set the depths, I decided to use 1/8th inch plexiglass which I'll have to get some time soon. After all that I had to make some new jigs to put dowels in. As I started designing them, I realized that the old ones from the frame side probably would work, and after a quick test they did.
I set up the drill press by stacking metal blocks, and using a level to make sure everything was good I started drilling. I was able to do both the top and bottom piece as well as one of the side pieces, but after putting some dowels in to test and putting the pieces together I noticed that they didn't fit perfectly. They had the same problem as last time where the top and bottom stick out a little, and I didn't want to sand it because this is the side that people will see and will cover everything. Instead of dowels, my dear friend and fellow classmate Alexander Hickey suggested just nailing the pieces together, or maybe even screwing them. Either way would work, so I'll have to figure that out after February vacation.
