Week of 12/11/23

This week I finished getting everything set up for my jersey project. The first thing I did was redesign my entire model to be 3/4 inch thick. The cover was already done, so all I had to do was the frame itself. This was much harder because I had two layers, one on the bottom for the LED strip channel and one on top for the hinges. The new plan is to just combine the two and not have the LEDs be in the middle of the frame in a channel, but on the outside. Once the cover is closed over it, the LEDs will look like they are in a channel, which not only makes the project look better but also saves so much time and material. After some working and deleting old layers that I didn't need, I completed my goal and the whole frame is 3/4 inch thick. I can now get one big piece of 3/4 wood from Home Depot, which I found and need to go pick up. I also did some research on magnets to hold my frame closed, so now everything besides the glass is figured out.

While I was waiting to get all the materials for my frame, I started making a mini project to keep me occupied. Since the Christmas season is coming up and Mr. Christy brought in his yearly supply of hickory nuts, I decided to make my own nutcracker. I did some research on how nutcrackers work, and it's very simple. Basically there's an L shaped piece that when you push down on it cracks nuts open. I was lost on what to make it out of, so I just started designing a nutcracker based off of something I found online in CAD. Mr. L told me not to do that and to always think about the production first, so I scrapped that model and started making a new one that can be laser cut. It should take me a a couple days until all my materials come in, and I think it will be a very festive project.
