Week 0f 11/27/23

This week I made some good progress on my jersey frame. I started out by finding the dimensions of all the different pieces of my frame. The cover is 3/4 inches thick and the frame itself is 1 1/4 inches all together. The bottom layer of the frame is 1/2 inches and the top layer is 3/4 inches. I reencountered the issue where part of the cover can't be routed because the back needs to be cut in order to fit with the side pieces like a puzzle but the other side needs to have a divot so the 1/4 plexiglass can be glued in. Before I dealt with that, I went to carpentry with Big John and Milo to talk about what wood I should get. I suggested that to fix the routing problem with the cover, I just cut the whole piece out of one big 40x32 piece of wood, however the teacher said that it would be a massive waste of both material and money, so I had to find a way to fix it. He also said that before he can give me his opinion I would need to show him a drawing file of the frame, so I made a couple of both the top and bottom layer of the frame. I held off on making drawings for the cover since I still hadn't thought of a solution, so I started researching. Mr. L suggested wooden dowels, and after finding a tutorial online I wanted to test if they would work.

I designed two wooden blocks that are the exact same thickness as the actual frame (3/4 inches) and they would need to be routed. Big John also needed to route something for his project as well, so with some help from Milo we routed our things together. Since mine were smaller we finished those first, and they came out fine. Now I need to go to the store and find the perfect size dowel to fit. Once I drill a hole and put some wood glue in it should work, just want to test it first. I took a little break from my project to make a birthday gift for my dad, but it came out horrible and I decided to scarp the idea. With nothing to do while I'm waiting to get the dowels, I researched anodized aluminum for the plaque of my frame. Overall I made some good progress this week.
